Rainbow Sportscards has been selling baseball cards in Sioux Falls, South Dakota since the middle 1980's. What started as a sideline in an antiques store soon grew into a full-time sports card and comic book store. We've been buying and selling baseball cards ever since.
Rainbow Sportscards has a selection of vintage baseball cards going back to the late 1950's. The vintage era of cards goes up until about 1971 or 1972. It is those years of cards we are most interested in if you are interested in selling baseball cards to us. Pre-1973 material is what we look for.
Modern Baseball Cards
After the material from around 1972, selling baseball cards changes dramatically. There is a much larger quantity of product available, and condition is generally not as important, as most of it is in pretty decent shape. When selling baseball cards, especially older ones, condition is extremely important. A dinged corner can be the difference between a $100 card and one that sells for $12. An off-center card, even though the collector had no control of it, is generally not as desirable as a perfectly centered one, and this too is reflected in the price. Keep that in mind when selling baseball cards.
Newer Baseball Cards
Whens the baseball card hobby exploded in the 1980's, suddenly everybody was selling baseball cards, and the manufacturers responded by keeping the presses going. A lot of the products made in those years are still readily available for original price or under. The 1994 baseball strike made selling baseball cards even tougher, as fans left the game in droves. Baseball and selling baseball cards made a comeback with Cal Ripken Jr.'s streak and the home run chase of Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa in 1998. The advent of autographed and memorabilia cards in the late 1990's further changed the market. Selling baseball cards is always different from year to year and product to product.
