New Comic Books

Rainbow Sportscards & Collectibles has been selling new comic books since the middle of the 1980's. We have seen the industry go through all kinds of different phases from the rise of the superstar artist, the variant cover craze, and everything in between. New comic books are a weekly thing, with Wednesdays seeing all the regular customers coming in to grab their new comic books. Anywhere from 40 to 100 titles might come out in any given week, from as many as 40-50 different publishers. Marvel and DC Comics still hold the majority share of the industry, with Dark Horse and Image Comics following them, and a bevy of smaller publishers making up the rest of the marketplace. Superhero comics still sell more than anything else, with an occasional blip from another genre, usually driven by a movie or superstar writer from another field.

Superhero Comics

The standard Marvel or DC comic book is about 22 pages of story, and most of the new comic books they put out are superhero titles. Superman, Batman, the X-Men , and Spider-Man are still the best-known characters and they will still sell the most new comic books. Other characters like the Fantastic Four, the Justice League of America, and the Avengers also have big followings. The companies have tried going to other formats like prestige or squarebound, but the standard 22-page book seems to work the best.

Other comic books

Non-superhero books have started coming on in recent years. New comic books can now be found about just about any subject, from horror or suspense titles, to westerns, war, sci-fi, or historical adventure. A lot of these titles sell marginally as new comic books but then sell better when collected in book form as graphic novels. New comic books have been produced since the 1930's, with some genres going in and out of vogue several times during the span. New comic books will continue to diversify into other areas and people who enjoy new comic books will be able to read about anything they want.
