Rainbow Sportscards has a wide selection of basketball cards for sale . Basketball's popularity differs on a year-to-year basis, usually depending on the strength of the rookie class. Right now, basketball cards are manufactured by Topps and Upper Deck. Both companies have established a niche in the marketplace that seems to work for them. Rainbow Sportscards also carries a good selection of older and vintage basketball material to round out our basketball card inventory.
The most common way of purchasing new basketball cards is by the pack or box. There is nothing in collecting that can replace the thrill of ripping open a pack and seeing what surprises wait inside. Most boxes have between 24-36 packs each, with anywhere from 5-15 cards per pack on average. Boxes begin releasing every year as soon after the rookie draft as possible, capitalizing on the hype of the new players and their first rookie cards. Some sets short print certain of the rookies to make set building a more difficult but hopefully enjoyable task. Topps and Upper Deck offer sets in every price range imaginable, from 99 cents a pack to up in the hundreds of dollars a pack for premium basketball cards.
Rainbow Sportscards has a good selection of older basketball cards for sale as well. We still have some boxes from the 1990's and we have a decent stock of singles ranging back to the early 1970's. We have some of the most popular players from the era of the “tall boy” basketball cards like Lew Alcindor and Pistol Pete Maravich . Starting in the late 1980's we have a good run of basketball commons to help you finish your sets.
The other way to obtain cards is to just buy the individual or single cards that you need, usually for a set or a player or a team collection. There is no right or wrong way to collect basketball cards. Just find what you enjoy and go for it. If you like LeBron James autograph cards, collect those. If you like players, who went to the same college as you, collect those. If you're a die-hard fan of your hometown team, go ahead and go after those, but be prepared for plenty of local competition amongst collectors!
